San Juan del Ramo
In the vicinity of the village Navarra de Arás, the remains of the monastery of San Juan del Ramo are barely able to stand. The ruins are accessed through the NA 7230 that we will take in Viana, towards Arás. They are located on the left of the road on a hill that rises along the Valdearas River. Aras de Este in the merindad of Estella and was the only village with Bargota that remained independent when in 1219 Sancho VII "The Fort" founded the city of Viana and encouraged the villagers of the nearby villages to move to Viana. One of these villages was Soto, around whose hermitage would be built the Monastery of San Juan del Ramo.
